Low Clearance Towing
When you have a car with low clearance, or you need to transport it to another destination, you may need a special type of tow truck. These types of tow trucks have specialized equipment and can accommodate the specific needs of these vehicles.
You need a low clearance tow truck if you need your vehicle towed from a parking garage or other type of building that has a tight ceiling. A standard tow truck or flatbed truck won’t work in this situation and it would be impossible for a tow company to get back out with your vehicle in tow.
Some tow trucks and tractors are specially designed for this kind of job. Often, these light and medium-duty tow trucks are equipped with a stringer that can be lowered or raised as needed.
These tow trucks are usually a small size and can fit into the tight spaces that a standard tow truck cannot. They also have a boom that is attached at the base of the truck that can be lowered or raised as needed to accommodate the particular needs of the customer.
In addition to these specialized vehicles, there are a few other items that you need to consider when loading or unloading a vehicle with a low ground clearance. These steps will help you to safely move your car while also making the process faster and more efficient. Low Clearance Towing
Ramping:
When you’re loading a low clearance vehicle onto your carrier, the best option is to use ramps made from wood. The most popular materials for this are 4x4s and 2x10s, but other sizes can be used as well. These wood blocks should be trimmed to an angle so that they will roll easily when the trailer’s tires are placed on them. This will allow you to load a vehicle quickly without damaging the ground or the equipment.
The most important thing is to make sure that the ground below your vehicle is level and free of any debris before you begin to load. The last thing you want is to cause an accident while moving a vehicle on a dolly or a ramp.
Aside from this, you should also take into account the fact that a dolly has a lower suspension than a flatbed truck and it’s easier to damage the vehicle when it is on a dolly instead of on a flat bed.
This can lead to a lot of problems when you’re trying to maneuver the vehicle while it is on the dolly. You can end up damaging the bumpers or other components of the vehicle. You can also have a hard time opening the driver’s door on a dolly because the fender requires about 8 inches of clearance when the fender is folded down.
You can also increase the ground clearance on your trailer by using a longer board. The board should be centered under the tires of the trailer and should extend to the rear of the tire strap attachment bar. This will allow you to more easily clear the 6 inch tire stops on the front of your trailer and give you a greater amount of ground clearance.
